Signal Park

PRP

: Tolworth, Kingston, London

Signal Park is the central feature of Tolworth Village—a flexible, inclusive public square that blends urban living with a high-quality landscape. Designed to be safe, vibrant, and creative, it offers year-round use and encourages the community to socialise, play, and relax.

The adaptable design includes varied public seating, shaded and sheltered areas, and flexible open space to support activities such as summer fetes, Wimbledon screenings, and winter pop-up events like Christmas gatherings. BIM played a critical role in delivering the landscape vision. Full 3D coordination across architecture, engineering, and services allowed the team to optimise layouts for accessibility, social interaction, and climate resilience. This digital approach enabled informed decisions to create a welcoming, sustainable environment for all. Phase 1 of Signal Park masterplan provides 211 homes and the pocket park which is 0.25 hectares in size is the jewel and stepping stone for the next phases. The vision was to create a self-contained, family-friendly neighbourhood in a green healthy setting, with relationships to the surrounding and the new Tolworth station. As such, the input from landscape architects was prized from the outset. The project centres around community interaction, enabling residents to connect with their surroundings, green spaces, and local streets and cycle network, fostering a strong sense of ownership and community empowerment. The scheme serves as a model for urban regeneration, with sustainable infrastructure designed to support eco-friendly, low-carbon, resource-efficient, and healthy lifestyles. Placemaking efforts aimed to preserve, protect and enhance while preparing for a changing climate.
