Perry Vale House

Perry Vale House is a warm and expressive reimagining of a semi-detached Edwardian home in Forest Hill, London. Designed by Wellstudio Architecture for owners Nic Gray and Hayfa Hamdan, the project sensitively extends and transforms a once-cramped home into a wellness-led sanctuary that celebrates craft, light, and heritage.

Situated within a conservation area, the home’s original Arts & Crafts features inspired a bold yet respectful architectural response. At the heart of the extension is a sculptural new kitchen and dining space – an everyday gathering point infused with material richness and spatial drama. Curved glass doors, an inverted arched window, and bespoke brickwork nod to the house’s existing bay windows while introducing a contemporary language that feels both intentional and timeless. The clients’ cultural heritage shaped the brief: space for sharing food, welcoming family, and connecting indoors with outdoors was paramount. The rear extension replaces a dark, narrow kitchen with a vibrant, light-filled hub designed around ritual and routine. A modest bedroom loft conversion and bathroom upgrades complete the transformation. Navigating structural complexity and budget constraints, the architect-client team worked closely to prioritise impact over scale – embracing joinery, texture, and natural materials to heighten spatial quality. The result is a layered and personal home that champions craft, resilience and joy. Perry Vale House demonstrates how a home extension can be more than just an addition: it can be a restorative act of care – for people, for place, and for the stories a house continues to tell.
