No Ordinary House
: London
No Ordinary House is a sensitive, large-scale renovation designed to create a welcoming, modern family home while honouring the building’s character and the client’s personal history. The brief called for a space that felt emotionally rich, connected to nature, and adaptable to everyday life — not a show home, but a home to live in and grow with.Working closely with Mulroy Architects, the design focused on enhancing light, flow, and a strong relationship between the interior and garden. A poured concrete floor links the kitchen to the patio, while a dramatic courtyard living wall anchors the house, creating a Biophilic focal point visible from multiple rooms. Inside, the home balances old and new through a careful mix of repurposed furniture, vintage finds, and natural finishes. Existing artwork informed the colour palette, while black and brass details offer quiet elegance. Darker, north-facing rooms were embraced with rich, cocooning tones, while light-filled spaces feel open, fresh, and layered with texture. Future flexibility was built into the layout, including a basement designed to evolve as the family's needs change. Sustainable choices were made both structurally — including solar panels, insulation, and underfloor heating — and aesthetically, by prioritising reuse and low-impact materials. The result is a home full of heart, grounded in family life, designed with intention and built to last.
