Edgcott

Old School Cottage and Hawthorn Cottage on Buckingham Road in Edgcott combine traditional rural design with modern methods of construction (MMC) to deliver traditional homes to the internationally recognised Passivhaus Standard.

As our first development of this type the cottages combine environmental benefits with those of working with a local social enterprise to provide on-site training for up to 3 young people each day. Toolshed working with Pace Construction built the cottages using the Beattie Passive system which is constructed in a pop-up factory and then delivered to site for assembly. The system features super-insulated construction that ensures the properties maintain an even temperature whatever the weather, cutting energy bills all year round, whilst providing superior sound proofing and comfort. During the build, inspections were carried out by the Trust, the warranty provider Checkmate (https://www.checkmate.uk.com) and the architect Redmak.
