A RESTORATIVE RURAL RETREAT FOR SARTFELL
Foster Lomas
If it wasn’t for the strip of light that emanates from its wraparound ribbon window, this threebedroom house on the Isle of Man could be mistaken for part of Sartfell mountain. Designed to blend into a 7½-acre nature reserve, A Restorative Retreat for Sartfell won Large House of the Year as well as overall Home of the Year. Architects at Foster Lomas harvested rock from an excavation of the site to build the dry-stone walls of this 3,000 sq ft carbon-neutral home. The owners, keen birdwatchers, plan to rewild the grounds, restoring native woodland, meadowland and acid bogs.
