Antje Saunders

Director , Allies and Morrison

Antje Saunders is a Director at Allies and Morrison. She joined the practice in 2007 after completing her Master of Arts degree with distinction in Housing and Urbanism at the Architectural Association Postgraduate School.  A key contributor to the practice's work in urbanism, Antje has played an important role in large mixed use and housing-led masterplans including the Olympic Legacy Communities Masterplan and several estate regeneration projects as well as the King's Cross Masterplan where she continues to lead ongoing client support and masterplan updates.  Building on her in-depth understanding of the complexities of urban design, her extensive experience includes the regeneration of the Gascoigne Estate in Barking, the redevelopment of Hounslow's former Civic Centre site into a new neighbourhood at Lampton Road, a campus masterplan for the University of Central Lancashire as well as design guidelines for Msheireb, an award-winning mixed-use masterplan in central Doha.  Antje led the masterplan for Fosters Estate in Hendon, a co-design project that explored ways of providing much-needed additional affordable homes within an existing estate, creating design proposals in close collaboration with, rather than for, the local community. Recently, she has been working on the redevelopment of a large industrial site in the Lea Valley into a mixed-used neighbourhood colocating industrial and residential uses, and now applies her knowledge in this sector to a masterplan in the Royal Docks.  Antje is an active member of the practice as well as a thought leader in the wider field of masterplanning and urban design. She established and co-leads the practice's own Masterplanning Group, commissioning and leading internal research pieces such as '20 ideas for better living', a study exploring the impact of Covid-19 on housing design, as well as public events such as Allies and Morrison's annual 'Citymakers' conference. She is passionate about establishing a more holistically sustainable approach to masterplanning amongst clients, local authorities and industry peers and regularly wins new work through her extensive knowledge and experience, paired with her enthusiasm for high-quality design that can stand the test of time.
