Southmere sits within the heart of South Thamesmead and is a new, much-needed, mixed-use development benefitting from a lakeside setting. The first phase of Southmere, which has recently completed, will provide 130 new homes. A collection of quality one, two, three and four-bedroom homes meet the housing needs of a community where financially viable options for homeownership are in demand. The new public square, Cygnet Square, will become home to a variety of retail spaces, independent shops, fitness studios, restaurants and cafes. Residents will also have access to a concierge service, residents’ lounge, meeting rooms and workspaces. Already a dynamic and exciting community, Southmere is set to become a buzzing hub in Thamesmead. The cultural programme includes the resident-led annual Thamesmead Festival and the Thamesmead Codex exhibition in partnership with TATE which will run from June to September 2021. There’s also RTM.FM, the local radio station which has over 40 residents broadcasting shows 24/7, TACO! (Thamesmead Arts and Culture Office) and the Lakeside Centre which is a new creative hub boasting 35 artist studios. Offering over 240 hectares of parks and green space, five lakes, and 7km of canals, residents can enjoy more than double the amount of green space per person in Thamesmead than the London average.
