Lydia Hill-Wood

Company Director , Hill-Wood & Co (Kent) Ltd

I am the company director of a Chartered Landscape Architecture firm in Kent.  With over 20 years experience in construction, development and landscape design.  I run a firm dedicated to making every site better post development. This can include, but is not limited to: improved social landscapes, biodiversity enhancement, reducing air pollution and encouraging users into the outdoors. The practice works closely with all of its clients and the design team, to ensure every scheme can work in unison with all requirements. With deep understanding and experience in all forms of development, ranging from Public Open Spaces to residential development, including retail through to education, covering all design aspects from concept through to construction.  Lydia has worked on a variety of projects for National House Builders down to private homes.  There have also been a number of educational projects, industrial and retail schemes, alongside highly regarded institutions such as working on National Heritage assets such as Battle Abbey.

What are you most looking forward to about judging this year's British Homes Awards and, as a judge, what are you looking for in the work?

When designers are given the opportunity to talk about their work without having to tick boxes for planning purposes, you truly get to hear all of the process which they have gone through and every little detail which has been designed in or out of the scheme.  Every project, big or small, stems from the desire to make something great.  I cant wait to hear why each one of these schemes are great!
