Fred Guttfield

Founder , Guttfield Architecture

Fred founded Guttfield Architecture in 2011 to help clients create beautiful contemporary homes for challenging, protected and sensitive sites.  Based in Berkshire, we work across the South East and London, designing low-energy, long-life buildings within challenging budgets.  The practice has won several awards, including Home Extension of the Year at the British Homes Awards 2021 and Best Modern Building at the Chilterns Building Design Awards 2021. Our first new build home was shortlisted for the 2018 Manser Medal.   We were included in New Architects 4, a book by The Architecture Foundation "surveying the best British architectural practices established in the past ten years."   Work by the practice has been exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts and published in books, magazines and newspapers including The Times, The Sunday Times, the Evening Standard, RIBA Journal, Architecture Today, Architectural Design, Grand Designs and Wallpaper. Our project 'Cherry Tree House' was featured on Channel 4's Extraordinary Extensions.  Fred is also a member of the Reading Borough Council Design Review Panel, is an RIBA Professional Examiner and RIBA Student Mentor.
