L&Q and Mount Anvil

: Stockwool Architects

L&Q and Mount Anvil formed a pioneering joint venture partnership to deliver The Silk District, a brand-new development transforming the former site of a warehouse into an impressive new district offering a mix of Affordable, Shared Ownership and private sale homes in Whitechapel, East London.

The Silk District is a 3.5-acre scheme, with 35,000 sq ft of commercial space – 20% assigned to affordable workspace. With 73 Shared Ownership, 515 Private Sale and 110 affordable rent homes, an impressive 35% of the 698 units are allocated to affordable housing. The first phases of the development are now complete, with residents already living in their new homes. All phases will compete in 2023. The formation of this unique partnership has helped maximise the benefits of the new development for residents and local people, leading to the creation of one of East London’s most impressive emerging developments. L&Q and Mount Anvil’s knowledge, experience in the industry, attention to detail and choice of location has delivered an exemplary partnership at The Silk District that champions the ethos of working together to deliver more for residents. From the outset, the partner’s visions were aligned in their hope to increase the amount of affordable housing and workspace in the area. Further, despite challenges during the Covid pandemic, the partnership has also resulted in accelerated construction.
