SMITHS DOCK

URBAN SPLASH & PLACES FOR PEOPLE

Smokehouses consists of two residential apartment buildings of 80 units situated within the first phase of a transformative regeneration scheme at the former Smith’s Dock shipyard in North Shields, North Tyneside.

The scheme was designed by Manchester-based architects, SimpsonHaugh and constructed by joint venture partners, Places for People and Urban Splash. Smokehouses offer a contemporary new vision for residential design in this part of North Tyneside and have been a catalyst in attracting significant investment into a range of new leisure and hospitality businesses at the nearby North Shields Fish Quay.

Both the interior and exterior design of Smokehouses pays homage to the strong industrial heritage of the location. Smokehouses are a striking new addition to the riverside skyline, adding to the already strong character of the North Shields Fish Quay as both a visitor destination and residential location.

The apartments were designed to suit a range of buyers in the local market with one, two and three bedroom units available, plus a small selection of duplex apartments. Prices started at £125,000 for a one-bedroom apartment, rising to £395,000. 95% of the homes have sold following project completion in Autumn 2019.

As the cornerstone of the Smith’s Dock development, Smokehouses are a bold vision of a positive new future at this key residential scheme. They deliver on a sense of optimism and pride that Smith’s Dock is once again at the centre of this waterfront community.
