Goldsmith is an elegant family home in Acton, West London, that bridges Victorian heritage with contemporary living. The project involved the design of a wrap-around extension and a full refurbishment through ground and first floor levels, delivering a residence tailored to the client’s desire for individuality, comfort, and bold design.

Working as an integrated architecture and interior design team, the design evolved holistically, ensuring a seamless spatial flow and cohesive aesthetic. Each room was crafted to possess a distinct character while remaining part of a unified whole, with recurring motifs such as curves, varied tile layouts, and rich material palettes tying the spaces together. Central to the home is the south-facing kitchen — a luxurious yet functional space anchored by a monolithic island clad in leathered quartzite and surrounded by dark oak cabinetry. Elsewhere, the contrast of light and dark defines mood and purpose: a bright, tiled utility room is counterbalanced by a dark teal study with framed garden views. Throughout, the use of expressive tiles and bold finishes reflects the client’s personality and design sensibilities, particularly in the Art Deco-inspired bathrooms. Carefully layered thresholds and curated sightlines create a sequence of atmospheres, from dramatic to serene. Sustainability was a core priority, with all interventions incorporating significant thermal upgrades to enhance energy performance and comfort. Goldsmith is a home that respects its historical context while embracing modern identity — a design that finds unity in contrast, elegance in detail, and character in every space.
