COVENT GARDEN APARTMENT
Sally Conran Studio Ltd
: London
Sally was asked to design and oversee the complete refurbishment of a poorly converted one bedroom apartment, situated on the first floor of a large characterful period mansion block, on the outskirts of Covent Garden in Central London. This compact property has an area of 46 sq metres; high ceilings and large original windows. The client requested a new streamlined kitchen and bathroom design; new flooring throughout; the creation of a utility cupboard, new storage; a dining area for entertaining; a relaxing living area and a for working from home. He requested a new bedroom design with maximum storage and a colour palette that includes blue - his favourite colour. He also wanted help hanging his artworks. The property is comprised of unusual, angled spaces and the main space is open plan. Room layouts were our biggest challenge and resolving these was the key to creating a stylish modernised home within this period property. Windows and decorative pillars which were previously boarded up were reinstated adding a sense of period grandeur. The kitchen was completely reconfigured with a new U-shaped design, in order to maximise storage and create a feeling of space. This created an area for his desk. A rich palette of walnut, brass, velvet and linens was created set against a backdrop of atmospheric blues to compliment his artworks. An extending dining table provides seating for six people and the bathroom was reconfigured with a large shower. The result is a relaxed, stylish home full of stylish personality.
