CHAPELTON

PLACES FOR PEOPLE

: Gavin Murray (Lead Architect/Designer)

Affordable homes-led placemaker Places for People is helping to deliver Chapelton – a new town of up to 8,000 homes.

Chapelton is being constructed on land owned by the Duke of Fife and four local farming families, with the development process being led through the Elsick Development Company (EDC). The Scottish Government and Aberdeenshire Council are also supporting the delivery of this flagship scheme which will create a self - sufficient town with an enduring and positive legacy. When complete, it will feature diverse traditional home designs, grouped in seven neighbourhoods, within walking distance of schools, shops, cafes, workspace and varied green spaces. What sets Places for People apart here is its commitment to creating affordable homes for sale and rent – the only developer to do so in the local area. Places for People has already delivered 200 homes that meet the needs of a broad range of customers – with one-bedroom to four-bedroom properties available on mid-market rent, shared equity and market sale tenures, maximising access and affordability to buyers. The homes in this latest phase, designed by architect Brooks Murray, have traditional, exteriors incorporating such features as chimneys and sash and case windows. Materials used to build the home are also drawn from the traditions of north east Scotland, and include slate and wet dash render. These robust designs are combined with all the comforts of modern living, including open plan living spaces and fibre broadband.
