Belsize Park Home
Cousins & Cousins
Agency: Belsize Park, London
Our client bought this neglected Edwardian semi-detached house, requiring substantial structural remediation and took the opportunity to completely rebuild the house behind a retained front façade adding a new basement to create a new 4,685 sqft 6 bedroom home.
From the outset, our client, a family with four young children, articulated a clear vision: a home that maximized space and fostered togetherness. We embraced this challenge, crafting an interior that seamlessly blends functionality with playful design around a series of interconnected spaces centred on the kitchen, dining, living and basement family areas.
By repositioning the front door to the front of the house, a new visual axis was created connecting the front door to the rear garden with a 3 story silver-travertine stone feature wall and cantilevered metal and timber staircase which formed the centre piece of the reconfigured home.
The interior strategy proposed the use of sustainable natural and recycled materials with textured and tactile finishes augmented by bold and colourful finishes, fabrics and furniture pieces to create a tranquil house that blends with its surroundings. We engaged local artisans for all special finishes and bespoke joinery, ensuring not only exquisite craftsmanship but also supporting the community and reducing our environmental footprint.
The feature cantilevered staircase and full-height feature stone wall showcases an innovative approach to design blending architecture and interior design whilst unlocking the interior layout and cleverly connected all the spaces together creating a beautifully crafted and thoughtfully conceived new family home for our clients.
