Beatrix Young

Beatrix Young is Director of Residential at BGY, where she works on housing-led regeneration projects across the UK. She is passionate about the quality of homes created through regeneration, from layout, daylight and durability to the way good design can support communities and improve everyday life. As a member of the Merton, Wandsworth, Newham, Havering and Oxford Design Review Panels, Beatrix brings a practical and experienced perspective to assessing proposals and championing good design. Her approach is shaped by hands-on experience of guiding complex sites through design, planning and delivery. She is a strong advocate for raising housing standards and believes thoughtful design can create better homes, stronger communities and more lasting places.

What top tip would you give to this year's entrants?

Awards are not just about recognition, they are a chance to share ideas, celebrate great work and show what our industry can really achieve. When you are putting together an entry, focus on clearly expressing the full potential of your project, as well as the thinking behind it. Setting this out clearly helps judges understand what makes the scheme stand out in a crowded field and how it responds to its brief, its site and its users.
