The National Home Improvement Council is a values driven membership organisation whose primary aim is to improve the quality, safety and affordability of works in and around the home. Working collaboratively to share knowledge and best practice the NHIC its members and partners continually raise the bar for a high quality professional home improvement sector.

Through its corporate and associate membership the NHIC represent over 30,000 businesses carrying out more than five million jobs each year in and around the home.

Representing 100s of trades and sub trades the NHIC membership contributes over £13bn each year to the UK economy, while delivering thousands of hours training and professional development to continually raise the quality and delivery of home improvement.

Its almost 50 years since the NHIC was launched at a time when Britain’s housing stock was in a very sad states, and the NHIC has campaigned lobbied and raised the roof on renovation and helped turn housing around.

Member and partners of the NHIC make a real contribution the future of the nations homes and are contributing to activities which;
- Improve the quality, safety and affordability of building works in and round the home
- Promote awareness of the need to improve existing housing stock in the UK alongside an
expectation of quality and reliability of works
- Promote awareness of the health benefits of home improvements
- Help to ensure the UK has sufficient skilled workers
- Promote energy efficient home improvements to reduce the number of households living in fuel
poverty and reduce the climate impact from housing.

The NHICs main activities concentrate on positively influencing policy makers, media outlets and providing independent information to homeowners and tenants. All with the vision to bring the nations home up to modern living standards while inspiring and supporting householders to renovate, refurbish and improve their homes with confidence.
