THE VAWDREY HOUSE

Our client had purchased this West Hampstead townhouse in two stages over the past 20 years and then put the lower and upper floors back together - but now it was time for a proper overhaul.

With a brief to create a calm, contemporary family home that would function for work-at-home parents and their teenage daughters, the house has been carefully remodelled and refurbished by The Vawdrey House.

The ground-floor has been reconfigured to create a cosy living room to the rear, with a larger Shaker inspired kitchen/diner at the front of the house. Flexibility for family life is enabled by sliding doors that can be opened to create an open-plan ground floor or closed for a separate living room, kitchen and hallway.

The black-painted staircase leads down to a stunning cloakroom, en-suite guest room and home office. With the office moved to the basement, the first floor now features two luxurious bedroom suites – each with their own style – with individual tiling bringing richness to the bathrooms. Individual tiling brings richness to each bathroom. On the top floor, partition walls were moved to create two large bedrooms and a glamorous antique-mirror lined family bathroom for the two girls.

The house has been transformed with sensitive adjustments that ensure individuality yet cohesion throughout. The refurbishment combined significant works where warranted with a light-touch, economical approach.
