Small house of the year

Find out about Shawm House by MawsonKerr Architects, winner of the Award for Small House of the Year.

This home stands in a beautiful but exposed Northumberland setting, its design winning planning consent for its ‘exceptionally high quality of design’. The house is rooted in its context, drawing inspiration from the barn for its form, being constructed using locally sourced materials and physically linking to an existing stone stable block. This sustainable design based on Passivhaus principles was created for a retired couple and constructed by their son, and both celebrates and facilitates the lives of its owners.
